In his address to the United Nations General Assembly, Colombian President Gustavo Petro urgently called on the peoples of the world to unite in a "global revolution" aimed at protecting the planet and promoting life. His speech emphasized the need to create an "army of warriors for life," utilizing the power of united humanity in contrast to the weapons and greed of the global oligarchy.
Petro warned that "either we raise the flag of life, or our peoples will be filled with cemeteries," referring to the devastating consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. In this regard, he urged local action and global collaboration, stressing that it is time for "the simple people of humanity" to take responsibility for addressing the most pressing issues.
The Colombian leader also highlighted the current governments' ineffectiveness in halting the extinction of life, presenting a choice between "life or greed," and emphasizing that "there is no more time left." He advocated for a new flag that represents the diversity and unity of all the world's peoples to defend their existence.
Additionally, Petro proposed a reinterpretation of socialism, suggesting that true wealth should be based on creative and free work rather than dependence on oil. In his speech, he called for a dialogue between civilizations and drew inspiration from various cultural and social traditions, proposing that the future of humanity should result from cooperation and the collective construction of knowledge.
The president concluded his address with a message of hope and unity, urging the peoples of the world to come together in the greatest battle for life in human history.
